Textbook End of Year Information:

ALL TEXTBOOKS ARE DUE THE WEEK OF FINALS - May 19th-22nd. Novels will be due by Friday, May 16^th - LAST DAY TO RETURN ALL BOOKS WILL BE THURSDAY, MAY 22^nd, BY 12:30pm.

1. Please return your textbooks and novels to your teacher, on the day you take your Final for that subject. Your teacher will be checking the textbook barcode, so please make sure you have YOUR textbook. The teacher’s checkoff list will be your “receipt” that you returned your book, so please only return the book to your teacher.

Please note: Some teachers may begin collecting textbooks the week of May 12^th. Please follow your teacher’s instructions.

2. You may check your Aeries Student Portal under Resources/District Assets for a list of textbooks to return. You may also stop by the Textbook Room for a printed list.

3. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your textbooks, please come see me in the Textbook Room.

Resource Assets

The following information is provided to help you use the resources of your Textbook Room and Library more efficiently.

Textbooks, workbooks, and other instructional materials are issued at the beginning of each semester and throughout the semester as requested by teachers.
Textbooks for year classes, such as Mathematics, English, History, and Foreign Language are usually issued for the full school year. Textbooks for semester classes are issued at the beginning of each semester and collected at the end of each semester. Class novels and workbooks may be issued and returned during the course of one semester.
Students need to report any and all unmarked damages to the library staff within 1 week of checking out materials.
Students are responsible for the care and preservation of all instructional materials checked out to them. Please read the following rules and responsibilities carefully.
The textbooks checked out to you with your John Burroughs High School ID card are the property of the Burbank Unified School District and it is your privilege to use the books while you are a student at John Burroughs High School.
Only students with a current, valid John Burroughs High School ID card will be issued books. Students will be issued textbooks only for those classes in which they are enrolled. Students are required to return all textbooks at the conclusion of the class, at the direction or request of the teacher and/or the Library staff, or if the student leaves John Burroughs High School.
Textbooks are only checked out with a current, valid John Burroughs High School ID card. (*Textbooks may be picked up before school, nutrition, or lunch.)
All textbooks are to be covered with a paper, non-adhesive book cover.
Students are to protect all textbooks from damage.
Students are asked not to write, underline or highlight in textbooks, including textbook novels checked out for English classes.
If textbook is lost or damaged in any way, student will pay all costs before a new textbook is issued.
All textbooks checked out to the student must be returned in good, usable condition, with the barcode still attached to the book, at the end of the class.
Students will not be allowed to pick up textbooks during Summer Registration, for the new school year or have records transferred, etc., until all textbooks and library books are returned and outstanding fines are paid.

Textbook Fines and Fees

Fines for repair or replacement of library or textbook materials are assessed when materials are abused during the time the student was responsible for the materials. Fines are assessed when a book is water or liquid damaged, the binding is damaged, a barcode or picture has been cut from the book, or damage due to ink, highlighter, or writing has occurred inside the book.
Report cards, transcripts, and diplomas may be withheld if a student has damaged or not returned upon demand, any textbook or library materials. (CA Ed. Code 49014)

Damage Descriptions

Barcode missing: $5
Dirty - book was not covered: $5 up to replacement cost
Edge and/or spine damage – corners exposed: $5 per corner
Cover damage- marks, writing, scratches: $5 up to replacement cost
Cover - bent, torn, or missing: $10.00
Lost: replacement cost
Unusable - stained, molded, burned, destroyed: replacement cost
Lost & paid, found, returned usable: Full Refund (with original receipt)
A full refund is issued for items lost and paid if returned in good, usable condition, with original receipt.
